If you are planning to update your address, name, or date of birth, you must be aware of the revised list of valid documents issued by the government. These changes are designed to enhance security and ensure that every citizen holds only one valid Aadhaar number.
​What are the New Documents Required for Aadhaar Verification?
​The government has streamlined the verification process by categorizing documents into four main pillars. Here is what you need now:
- ​Proof of Identity (PoI): To verify your identity, documents like PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving License are now strictly mandatory.
- ​Proof of Address (PoA): For address updates, you can use utility bills, bank passbooks, or ration cards.
- ​Proof of Date of Birth (DoB): A Birth Certificate or Passport is the primary requirement for changing your birth date.
- ​Proof of Relationship (PoR): To establish family ties, documents such as a Ration Card or MNREGA Job Card mentioning parents’ names are required.
​Step-by-Step Guide: How to Update Your Aadhaar Card in 2026
​With the new rules in place, the online update process has become more structured:
- ​Visit the Portal: Go to the official site myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and sign in using your Aadhaar number.
- ​Verify Details: Check your current identity and address details displayed on the screen.
- ​Select Document Type: Choose the appropriate identity or address proof from the new dropdown menu.
- ​Upload Documents: Upload your scanned documents in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format (ensure the file size is under 2 MB).
- ​Final Submission: Click the ‘Submit’ button to complete the verification process.
​Important Note on Multiple Aadhaar IDs
​Under the new 2026 regulations, an individual is strictly allowed to hold only one Aadhaar number. If system errors led to multiple IDs in the past, only the first issued Aadhaar will now be considered valid. All subsequent IDs generated using the same biometric data will be deactivated.
